SU Gender dates back to 2010 and it has been continuing its work with the status of application and research centre within Sabancı University since 2016, contributing to gender and women's studies in Turkey with its research, training and awareness activities.

SU Gender, with aims including conducting, promoting and making gender studies visible, making academic knowledge accessible to all, and strengthening the flow of information and interactions between academia and civil society, has organised a number of international conferences, since 2010, to address a wide range of gender perspectives on education, literature, urban studies, ecology, arts, politics, feminist pedagogy, peace studies, gender equality in academia, and care ethics and politics.

In addition to these studies, SU Gender is organising the second "International Gender Studies in Turkey Conference" in 2024, intending to create a platform where current research studies on Turkey and on gender in Turkey will be presented, discussed and interested researchers will meet at regular intervals. The Conference aims to address the hot topics of gender studies on an interdisciplinary and intersectional basis and to make visible the contribution of feminist and queer perspectives, theories and methods to knowledge and policy production at a time of growing social inequalities.
